Sheldon Brown - RIP

Amazing (dead) cycling website legend Sheldon Brown's site is a compendium of bike stuff foun here.

Training Peaks - Great Software!

I bought the Training Peaks software for $99 a while back. Love it for my SRM and PowerTap data. So much is packed into this program I haven't even started to scratch the surface. Here's the blog.

Off Season Training

Base Miles. Trying to convince my friend T to take up coaching. The going rate is $300/month per person.

No luck installing SRM on TT bike yet. Still in box, collecting dust.

Initial flurry of work on state cycling listings died, slowed. Very busy week at real job.

Insomnia Tips

Often my mind starts spinning, usually worrying about what I have to do or how much money I'm about to spend, and I'm unable to get to sleep. I've developed a few strategies to help with insomnia, none of which are helping tonight.

First: I don't struggle with it for too long. If I notice I'm tossing & turning I move to the couch. I don't want to add to my worry thinking about waking my spouse.

Next: If there's a small task that needs doing I just get up and do it.

Finally: I listen to a podcast, usually a fiction sci fi or horror story, on the lowest volume. Seems to keep my mind busy enough to doze off.

If all fails: I get up and read, work, surf the net, spend money on eBay, whatever.

Bike Fit - Retul

Retul is a 3 camera $10,000 system that triangulates your ride position and knee deflection during different levels of power output. Costs about $250 per bike and can take 2 to 2.5 hours. Not many locations. I saw it for the first time in Oklahoma City at Schlegel Bicycles Downtown.

An on-screen workout for the trainer. Check it out here.

Does Crank Arm Length Matter?

Here's a PDF that seems to indicate it does not. So I've settled on 170's.
